Challenges limited for Dukes in MAAC
There are two numbers that best illustrate why Duquesne has outgrown the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference: 37 consecutive victories against league opponents and seven consecutive MAAC championships. Duquesne has the longest current conference win streak in Division I-AA that dates to a 62-50 defeat at Iona in 1999. The Dukes are 70-7 against MAAC teams since joining the league in 1994. Duquesne wins 37th straight MAAC game, 7th title
Kevin Rombach, a third-string quarterback who started because of injuries to Scott Knapp and Ben Palumbo, completed 12 of 15 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns as Duquesne (6-3) defeated visiting La Salle (3-7), 56-14, yesterday. The Dukes (6-3) won their 37th consecutive conference game and seventh consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship. Visit Website ]

3rd-string QB lifts Duquesne to victory
Duquesne, led by third-string quarterback Kevin Rombach, defeated host Iona, 31-17, yesterday to win its 36th consecutive game in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Scott Knapp, the regular starter, wasn't available because of an injury. His top backup, Ben Palumbo, had to leave the game because of an injury. Visit Website ]

Duquesne defeats Marist, 22-14
Duquesne won its 35th consecutive game in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference -- the longest current conference streak in NCAA I-AA -- with a 22-14 victory at Marist yesterday. The Dukes (4-3, 2-0), ranked No. 8 in The Sports Network I-AA mid-major poll, took a huge step toward their seventh consecutive MAAC championship as Scott Knapp passed for 202 yards and threw touchdown passes of 16 yards to Greg Hough and 12 to Travis Taltoan. Jeremy McCullough rushed for 80 yards and scored on a 13-yard run. Visit Website ]

Status dogs Duquesne vs. Marist in MAAC
Duquesne finds itself in an unfamiliar role against a team from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference -- the underdog. But that's what the eighth-ranked Dukes (3-3, 1-0) are when they play at No. 4 Marist at 1 p.m. today. This will be the first time the Dukes will be ranked lower than a MAAC opponent since the inception of The Sports Network mid-major poll in 2001. Visit Website ]

Tullis shows maturity adjusting to new role
Clyde Tullis could have torn apart this season's Savannah State football team. When SSU coach Richard Basil benched the senior and started freshman Garrett Williams at quarterback during the second half of the Tigers' second game of the season, Tullis could have spewed venom about being moved to wide receiver. Duquesne streaking in MAAC
After three consecutive losses on the road against high-caliber opponents, Duquesne returns to its comfort zone -- home against teams from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Dukes (2-3, 0-0), who play host to Saint Peter's (1-4, 0-1) at 1 p.m. today in homecoming at Rooney Field, have won 33 consecutive games against MAAC teams for the longest active conference streak in Division I-A and I-AA. Boise State is next with 27 in a row in the I-A Western Athletic Conference. Visit Website ]

Interception sparks Dukes' victory
In a game that lasted three hours with 121 snaps from scrimmage, a play that took 10 seconds triggered Duquesne's 30-13 victory against Fordham at Rooney Field yesterday. Duquesne cornerback Kyle Postell stepped in front of the receiver, intercepted Derric Daniels' pass near the sideline and raced untouched 62 yards for a touchdown with four seconds left in the second quarter to give the Dukes a 23-13 halftime lead. Dukes Knapp a QB keeper
Scott Knapp's collegiate debut was one for the books -- the Duquesne University record books. Knapp, a redshirt freshman from Perry Traditional Academy, set the bar high by completing 23 of 42 passes for 365 yards and a touchdown in Duquesne's 23-12 victory against Robert Morris Saturday. It was the seventh-most yards passing in a game for a Duquesne quarterback and the most ever for a freshman. Visit Website ]

Optimistic Marist faces uphill climb
Over the course of the 14 years that Jim Parady has been head football coach at Marist College, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Football League has disintegrated. When the Red Foxes joined the MAAC in 1994 and won the league title, there were eight teams. Now there are only five, meaning Marist plays more non-conference games (seven) than conference games (four). Visit Website ]
