Bobcats start first spring drills of post-Lulay era today
When Montana State head football coach Mike Kramer announced plans last week to push back the start of spring football practice, it wasn't because the Bobcats were doing all they could to delay the official start of the post-Travis Lulay era. But it's certainly a valid enough reason.

UTC’s Lomax suffers serious leg injury
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga lost a player it couldn’t lose on the first play of its first spring scrimmage. Starting noseguard Brian Lomax broke his left tibia and fibula Sunday at Finley Stadium when a teammate fell on the back of his leg.

Separate but equal was a bad idea when the principle was validated by the U.S. Supreme Court in the Plessy v. Ferguson decision in 1896. Separate but equal finally was struck down in Brown v. Board of Education in 1954, although it took longer for the idea to disappear.

John Parkinson and Joseph Pitman both know they’ve gotten stronger since last fall. They both think that will make them more complete tight ends, but they won’t know for sure until the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga puts on pads today for the first time this spring.

Quakers must speak out on Ivy playoff ban
Sometime in the next week or two, Penn's Undergraduate Assembly will likely vote on a proposal calling for University President Amy Gutmann to vote to overturn the Ivy League's ban on postseason play for football. If the proposal passes, Penn's UA will be in the same company as Princeton and Harvard -- both schools' undergraduate governing bodies have passed similar legislation in recent weeks.

Austin Peay announced Wednesday that it extended head football coach Carroll McCray's contract through the end of the 2008 season. On Thursday, The-Leaf-Chronicle obtained the specifics of McCray's new three-year, $68,952 deal that runs from June 22, 2006, through Dec. 31, 2008.
