McCray receives 3-year extension
Austin Peay announced Wednesday that it extended head football coach Carroll McCray's contract through the end of the 2008 season. On Thursday, The-Leaf-Chronicle obtained the specifics of McCray's new three-year, $68,952 deal that runs from June 22, 2006, through Dec. 31, 2008.

Can it get any weirder at SSU?
ATLANTA - A Savannah State University student alleged Thursday during a hearing that he was suspended on trumped-up charges to stifle his investigation into wrongdoing by the school's president. Two senior campus police officers have lost their job following the suspension, and the school's former baseball coach, Jamie Rigdon, is awaiting his own hearing for wrongful dismissal when he is expected to make similar claims.

Govs will face three OVC schools this fall
With the second day of spring practice winding down and 13 more to go, Austin Peay now knows who it is gearing up to play. The Govs released their 2006 football schedule on Friday, and it's highlighted with a five-home, six-road game itinerary in their return to scholarship football.
