In honor of its 2005 Mountain West Conference championship and EV1.net Houston Bowl victory, the TCU football team will receive a proclamation from the city of Fort Worth at tonight's 7 p.m. City Council meeting at City Hall.
City Hall is located at 1000 Throckmorton Street in downtown Fort Worth. The meeting is open to the public.
Horned Frog coach Gary Patterson and TCU players Reeves Dalton and Ranorris Ray will be present to receive the proclamation.
TCU won its final 10 games last season and will enter the 2006 campaign with the nation's second-longest current winning streak. The Frogs closed last year ranked ninth by the USA Today and 11th in the Associated Press poll.
TCU football returns to the practice field
Following a 10-day layoff due to Spring Break, the TCU football team returned to the field Tuesday afternoon with a two-hour practice.
Horned Frog coach Gary Patterson, the only coach in TCU football history to record three 10-win seasons, was pleased with the effort of his defensive unit.
"We had a really good purpose for most of the practice," Patterson said. "The defense had a lot more purpose and finished up with probably the best practice we've had as far as spring ball.
"It's hard for the offense to come back after 10 days. They were a little bit rusty, but we did some good things. Obviously, we just have to keep getting better in all three phases."
Tuesday marked TCU's fifth practice out of the NCAA-allotted 15 for spring drills. The Frogs will take Wednesday off before resuming practice Thursday at 3:45 p.m.
TCU's 2005 defense allowed just 13.4 points, 92.1 yards rushing and 292.3 of total offense over the final seven games. Overall, the Frogs improved their scoring defense by 15.3 points (18.6 - 33.9) from the 2004 campaign. TCU also surrendered 96.9 yards per game (329.1 - 426.0) less defensively, including 82.8 (221.2 - 304.0) via the pass. The Frogs recorded a nation-leading 26 interceptions after totaling just nine picks in 2004. © Copyright 1997-2004 by I-AA.com and College Football Annual Advantage; Lakeland, Florida USA For permission to reprint or for more information, please phone 863.604.5962 |
