Gateway FB Conference CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa football team will begin spring drills on Tuesday, March 28 in the UNI-Dome.
The Panthers will practice on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday during the four-week drills. UNI will practice at 4 p.m. on Mondays, at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The UNI spring game is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, in the UNI-Dome. Practices are open to the public.
The Panther football team is also offering a free two-hour clinic - Kickoff Kids - for youth in grades 3-7 on Saturday, April 15 from 1:30-3:30 p.m., on the turf in the UNI-Dome. The clinic will focus on teaching young kids proper football fundamentals in a fun environment. Members of the UNI football team will serve as instructors as the kids work through multiple stations in the two-hour session. The Panthers are coming off their first-ever trip to the NCAA I-AA national championship game and third Gateway Conference title in five years. The Panthers have posted a mark of 44-20 under sixth-year head coach Mark Farley.
UNI will open the 2006 football season at Drake on Thursday, August 31. UNI's full 2006 football schedule has not been finalized and will be released prior to the completion of spring drills.
